In 2018, Bitumen Material Plant (BMP) exported more than 745 thousand tonnes of bitumen to nations such as Russia, the CIS, and others. With the binder’s adjustment, we also made progress. Asphalt is primarily employed (70%) in the construction of roads as a glue or binder, where it is combined with aggregate particles to make asphalt concrete. Its other two primary uses are for making roofing felt and sealing flat roofs with bituminous waterproofing treatments. The term “crude bitumen” is widely used to describe spontaneously occurring asphalt. This fractional distillation byproduct of crude oil, which boils at 525 °C (977 °F), is occasionally referred to as “refined bitumen,” and it has the viscosity of cold molasses.
Asphalt for roads
By carefully separating oil products (de-asphalting asphalts, selectively refining extracts), oxidizing the byproducts of direct oil distillation, and heating the byproducts, road oil bitumen is produced. Compounding is a further step in the mixing process that results in bitumen. An example of such an application is a binder for freshly applied and restored coatings on highways and airports. The company successfully finished a program to increase bitumen production in accordance with the demands of the new international standard GOST 33133-2014 of the Customs Union technical regulation. The extended procedures for evaluating the traits that finished goods should have are implied by the new standard. The document states that, in addition to basic qualities like conditional viscosity indicators and resilience to high-temperature effects, bitumen’s resistance to aging during transit and throughout the production of asphalt mix is also regulated.
Bitumen for Roofing and Buildings — By oxidizing oil residue left over from atmospheric vacuum distillation, rooftop bitumen grade oil is produced. The production of roofing grades should use lighter raw materials (less viscous) and lower oxidation temperatures than the technique used to create road bitumen.
